This fun little photographic essay is the work of Ulrika Kestere. It documents the fairy tale of a girl whose drying laundry is taken by a gust of wind. The girl looks for her clothes across the country-side only to discover them in theses whimsical horse shaped forms. Ok, so this is the 2 second condensed version, but you can check out the unedited story on her blog, Ulicam.

So here is a sneak peek at what we’ve been up to of late. It seems we just can’t avoid being all nostalgic and this range, titled forget me not, is no exception. This time we have moved away from our obsession with books (well sort of, you will see we have snuck them into the photo-shoot), instead we are exploring the theme of a modern take on those dearly treasured family heirlooms in the form of antique rings.

Our online store should be fully stocked in the next couple of weeks so watch this space lovely people.

So we attended the wedding of two of our favourites on the weekend in Melbourne. As we expected from such a stylish pair (well mostly Marina) the whole set up was AMAZING! Here is a sneak peek of a few of the pics from photographers Bayly and Moore. They are apparently known for their documentary style photography which makes for such lovely and whimsical wedding snaps.

I think THAT dress deserves as special mention too. It's made by Kristie Coakley at House of Snowball. SO beautiful!

How cool are these little delights. They have got to be one of the strangest and loveliest amalgamation of ideas. Combining old school sailor tattoos with the tradition of long white gloves creates a super splendid juxtaposition between masculine and feminine, dainty and sweet, and scary and tough. Well we think so anyway.

Beardcaps

So this is kinda like a balaclava only balaclavas make the wearer look totally menacing where as these make the wearer look 100% awesome and anything but scary. They are called the Berdcap and they are the clever creation of Vík Prjónsdóttir, an Icelandic design collective.

According to their website, the beardcap refers to a traditional cap called “lambshed-hood” which was used in Iceland by farmers who in heavy snowstorms had to walk long distances between their sheds and to the neighboring farms.

There is not a great use for it in our part of the woods however it could be a fun accessory on the slop this year for all you gentleman folk…

We are currently designing our new range. As always there is a reacurring theme of nostalgia in our work we just cant seem to shake (or maybe don't want to). So today we discovered the work of Irina Werning and we are a little bit in love. This super clever lass takes pictures from childhood and recreates them with the grown up version of the little person from the picture.

The results are sometimes eerie, sometimes funny, but always SO interesting. CHECK IT OUT.

So, we are going a little poster crazy over here but I have to share my most favorite birthday present from my brother and his even sweeter half. Introducing the coolest poster for lovers of type (like me). This super-clever work gives mustachioed personality to 30 fonts. Meet my new friends Mr. Helvetica Bold, the Dali-esque Mr. Filosofia, and Mr. Federal with his massive mo!

It's a great collaboration between between Tor Weeks and Old Tom Foolery, the poster is beautifully screen printed on cream card and is biggish, maybe about 450x700. I love!

I've been wanting to blog about these little wooden wonder for ages now, only I couldn't remember where I had seen them or who made them. Fortunately they had a stand opposite ours at Finders Keepers Markets on the weekend so I can now introduce you to the clever operation that is Bride and Wolfe. This piece I am currently coveting Monsieur Chapeau, is comprised of three reversible parts, one side is painted either white or black and the other side natural wood grain. Love!

Our super lovely and oh so talented pals, Dave Ladd and Stephanie Anderson (aka He She It They I.) recently embarked on a window display for Incu clothing store in Victoria Galleries.

As a couple that work, live and play together this hand crafted collection of oversized bits and bobs seems to be a charming shrine of sorts to their long standing partnership. In their words it is a ‘light-hearted look at the scale of relationships and their relationship to scale.’ You can find a mini shelf-size installation in the woman's Incu city store. Check it out.

The pair recently snuck off to Japan to get hitched which makes looking at this winsome display all the more lovley! Congrats kids. x

Pimp my ride

So we love riding our bikes. Our bikes are particularly awesome because they have baskets and bells (also Mel has a cool Vietnamese helmet that looks like a hat). However we can't help but feel our cycles could do with a little extra pimping after seeing this AMAZING and darn right adorable entry to the Seoul Cycle Design Competition 2010. It's called 'Horsey' and it's an attachable bicycle ornament/accessory which makes one's bicycle look horsey! It's designed by Eungi Kim who's goal was to "give a special look to bicycles so that people would care about cycling not only as transportation but also as a lovely pet." [designboom]

We adore the work of Julien Vallee! He is a Canadian designer living and working in Berlin, who is putting old school cut and paste back into graphic design, typography and motion graphics.

His unique approach is not only colourful and super cute but the tangible element to his work cant help but be admired for the mere crafting effort that goes into creating these beautiful images.

Here is one of his latest works, its an interactive video made for the If You Could Collaborate exhibition in London. This experiment is about re-discovering our daily surroundings.

If like us you have a morbid curiosity with the creepiness of taxidermy but know to actually own one would be a level or two creepier than you are prepared to go then let us introduce you to crochadermy. It somehow still manages to keep a dash of the creepiness but this is nicely balanced with a large dose of utter cuteness.

These AMAZING pieces are the work of UK artist, Shauna Richardson. She uses coarse wools like mohair, and glass eyes to create life size animal models and hunting trophies. All works are created using a single colour and only one type of stitch for an entire crochetdermy model, changing the direction of the stitches to highlight certain anatomical features. She works with a single 3mm hook. Crazy! If you have ever tried to crochet you will understand this is an absolute FEAT.

We have been fans of Sanna Annukka, the very talented Finnish artist/printmaker for quite sometime. Most will know her for her amazing textiles, designed for Marimekko, and now we discover she has teamed up with nineteenseventythree to produce a beautiful range of cards and wrapping paper. The cards are foil printed in golds, silvers and bronze on recycled stock. The wrapping paper is a lovely tribal abstract pattern that is pretty enough to frame. Both are a super affordable way to own some of her wondrous work.

Our dearest friend Debbie, just returned from a wee excursion to the current mecca of all things cool, New York and returned with this adorable little purchased from the Brooklyn Flea Markets. After a bit of google/etsy ferreting, it seems there are a few people offering a similar product albeit without the market/NY experience. One of the nicest we found was by Ms Thomson. It has an adjustable silver band and can be purchased in the letter of your choice. A splendid preset idea we say.

They are a Tasmanian duo who make these lovely little Japanese paper creations out of recycled and eco-friendly materials. Being a little book obsessed, we were particularly taken with these hanging wonders.

What up knitter?

I guess winter isn't ALL bad! Some of you will have seen the latest super warm and fuzzy knitted street art/graffiti gracing lamp posts, signs and various other built objects around your respective cities. This latest craze, Yarn bombing or Guerrilla knitting as it's commonly called, seems to be mostly about reclaiming and personalising sterile or cold public places, and what a fine job they do.

We recently came across the work of Carol Hummel, who has done some amazing work with not only the built environment but natural object too. Her work, Tree Cosy is one of the loveliest knitted works we've seen, and we are positive this lucky little tree is the envy of all the surrounding plants this winter.

Naturally our recent interest in Guerrilla knitting sparked some research into knitted accessories and bingo, we discovered the NY based designer Elizabeth Yarborough who creates lovely knitted bangles to keep your wrists cosy this winter.

Romancing

My brother recently proposed to his lady with a super cute scrap-book, detailing the history of their relationship. Naturally he won the heart of not only his now fiance, Emma but romantics everywhere and has been receiving great praise for his efforts. Nice one little brother [inset pat on back].

I recently came across another romantic gentleman who made and proposed with a nifty little ring he calls the 'Talking Ring'. It has etched grooves on the outside, that when put onto a miniature record player contains a 20 second recorded message of the maker, Luke Jerram's proposal to his wife. Neat!

This clever fellow is also responsible for the 'Projector Ring', (my personal favourite) and yet another gift for his insanely lucky wife. In a darken room a candle or LED light can be passed through the ring to project a series of portraits. As the family grows, photo's of children etc can be added to the ring.

Who said romance was dead, eh?

A personal favorite of ours is Megan's "Coconut Milk Ice Cream with Caramelized Papaya & Lime" inspired by Fridia Kahlo's still life painting "Coconut Tears",1951.

We've asked Megan to list the top 10 things she loves and this is what she said......................

1. Still Life Photographers (more specifically Aya Brackett, Mark Menjivar, Martin Parr & Marian Drew) their work is a source of inspiration.

2. Stain Teacups by Bethan Laura Wood http://www.woodlondon.co.uk/PAGES/COLLECTIONS/TABLE/STAIN1.html .Teacups that are fired to stain as you use them.

3. Byron Bay Green Jalapeno Chilli Sauce with coriander http://www.byronbaychilli.com/hot_sauces.html. I may have accidentally consumed an entire bottle in less than three days.

4. Album: The Greatest by Cat Power. So beautiful, almost painfully sad.

5. Frida Kahlo. She was my favorite artist even before I studied Art History. I just featured my favorite painting by Kahlo on feasting on Art http://feasting-art.blogspot.com/2010/01/kahlos-coconut-milk-ice-cream-with.html

6. Fish. I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was little but became deterred due to my overwhelming fear of deep water. Often when traveling my first stop is to the aquarium - no matter how small or out of the way. I have two pet goldfish - Frida (Kahlo) and Alfred (after the photographer Alfred Stieglitz)

7. Distortion Series by André Kertész. Created in 1933 the collection of about 200 photographs were made with mirrors and the bodies are so warped that in some only a few limbs are discernible. I always found the images quite sad (but beautifully so), the women had no control over the way in which the mechanical lens contorted their figures. Perhaps it is best to view the series while listening to The Greatest by Cat Power.

8. Lomo Photography. I have a Holga camera that I use to shoot 120m film. From double exposures to vignetting and light leaks the medium always keeps me guessing.

9. Paper Cutting by Peter Callesen http://www.petercallesen.com/ I first discovered his work at the Frieze Art Fair in '06 and have been patiently saving my pennies ever since.

10. Michigan. I may be biased because it is my home but what is not to love about a state shaped like a mitten?
